Walking bike

This little walking bike has brought me (and my partner) šŸ˜€a lot of joy! Due to minimal flexion (30) walking outside, espacially on uneven surfaces, is a challenge. I use one crutch for shorter distances. But for longer walks, especially in european cities with historical pavements, my partner was always my support. Also he had to adapt to my low speed. Now he has to run after me as I speed over all the little bumps on the road, en we can cover more kilometers. We already crossed through Amsterdam, Perugia, Palermo, Edinburgh, Glasgow. We even use it in nature, when there are more or less straight paths. Hills are a problem, but we don't have a lot of them in Holland. It is allowed inside restaurants and shops, and also to take on a plane, although most airport officials are in full confusion when we present it, and the solution is always a surpise and never the same. The best thing about using this device is that I can look around, instead of only studying the pavement of the road I walk. Sadly the producer in Holland (Van Raam) took this out of production, but there are other companies starting to offer similar things. Costs about 750 euro (too much), but also available second hand. Don't think of it as a bike, it really is only to make walking easier, safer and faster. This model is small enough to fit behind the front seats of my small car (Kia Picanto), and I can easily get it in and out. It folds a little bit to fit in the trunk of a larger car. As all arthrofibrosis things. I had to figure this out myself, nobody tells you about this option. So maybe some of you can also gain some mobility!

Hi Brigitte,

Thank you so much for sharing this great tip!! This walking assistance tool sounds very helpful for people who need to take the weight off their knees.

If you're reading this and interested in a Van Raam, and you're in Australia, there is one new one still available from Cargo Cycles, it's possibly the last new one here. I bought the second-to-last one, thanks to Brigitte's heads-up : -)
