Phil's arthrofibrosis story

Phil

13. Sept. 2026

Decline of right knee started normally and the normal things were tried. In March 2020 I received my first TKR. Immediately, the therapists saw I wasn't getting normal flexion/extension due to the arthrofibrosis, so surgeon tried 7 MUA's (some very painful) over the next months.

Then an arthroscopy was done. AF shut that down quickly.

Then I lined up for total removal and replacement BUT this time the surgeon radiated my knee immediately before surgery. To no avail. Arthrofibrosis came storming back and I think I was more immobilized after this 2nd attempt. Living life with a frozen knee.

Hundreds and hundreds of trips to therapy and today I can walk for short bursts and that's it. Sitting and rising is extremely difficult.

It has INVADED every aspect of my life! Depression. Weight gain. Pain increasing in left knee (which was also supposed to be replaced years ago). Been 6 years now. I was an active person who enjoyed sports. Today, I cannot ride a bicycle, go for a hike, or ski--which I had cited as my major goal on all the therapists' forms as my goal.

Overall, I just feel abandoned because no doctors invest any research time in this area. So, I was happy to find the IAA and it brought some hope.
