Firstly a big thank you to Dr Usher for this great Website which I found via Ruth Werners Podcast 😊! I am Swiss living in Germany and broke and luxated my elbow 22.12.22. Operateur 28.12.22. After a few weeks of swelling (Treated with lymphotic drainage) we startet mobilisation rather non-agressively because of the pain, but the surgeon was Not happy with the ROM (Approx. 30 degrees from horizontal down an 20 degrees up) and promoted strenger Physiotherapy. Next check up 10 days later another surgeon of the team mentioned AF for first time and promoted "physio that doesnt cause more inflammation". Started researching and Now I am so glad I found your page!
Question: can the Metal inside, since the elbow is relatively smalltalk, make AF worse? They dont want to remove the metal yet, only in about 6 months. 1 picture attached. THANK YOU! Ursula
Hi Ursula,
Thanks for your message. Some people have an allergic reaction to certain metals, and you should be able to be tested for that. If an allergy is present that could stimulate AF. There could also be an infection, so if you haven't been tested for that then it could be helpful (see Diagnostics). There are other problems that can arise from improperly placed components. However, removing the metal too soon can also create problems if bone healing isn't strong enough, so sometimes it can be helpful to get the opinion of several surgeons.
All the best,
Kayley
Sorry for some stupid autocorrect in the Text. Small elbow Not smalltalk etc.
